Carmina Burana y Sinfonía de los Salmos

* Programme subject to change

Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (1895–1982) is brought to life in a collaboration between Coro del Teatro del Bicentenario and Banda de Música del Estado de Guanajuato, under the musical direction of Adalberto Tovar and the choral direction of Jaime Castro Pineda. This staged cantata, composed in the 20th century to medieval texts, explores themes of fortune, desire, and human vulnerability through a bold and compelling musical language.

The programme is completed with Symphony of Psalms by Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971), a work that, far from the traditional symphonic model, combines liturgical and modern elements in a reflection on the sacred. The choice of these two pieces proposes a dialogue between contrasting visions of the human spirit, from the pagan to the religious, in a choral-orchestral experience of great artistic depth.

Press quotes

“There’s a study that says when a choir is perfectly in tune and singing fully in time, the hearts synchronize because everyone’s breathing rate becomes the same.”

Sandra Medina. AM

“Carmina Burana, the renowned cantata by Carl Orff, arrives in a powerful collaboration blending music and vocals to offer a deeply moving artistic experience. Inspired by medieval texts that explore fortune, desire, joy, and human nature.”
