Raíces del Pueblo was born from the fieldwork carried out by Miguel Vélez Arceo with the aim of preserving and sharing, through song and dance, the customs, celebrations, and traditions that make up the cultural richness of the state of Veracruz.
In this special performance, the Ballet presents a series of choreographic scenes inspired by two regions: the northern area of Veracruz and the Sotavento. The show includes a moving recreation of an Indigenous wedding in Chicontepec, as well as the vibrant Feria Huasteca, featuring traditional dances such as Matlachines and Chules. It also includes emblematic pieces, such as Cielito lindo, and popular sones like El caimán, El caballo, and La presumida.
The performance will also feature a representation of Fiesta de Corpus Christi in Papantla, incorporating traditional dances such as moros y cristianos, negritos, and guaguas (the dance of the four cardinal points), along with the nimbe ceremony, which is associated with the nuptial rite.
On the other hand, the sones jarochos La bruja, El jarabe loco, El palomo, El zapateado, and La bamba will fill the stage with vibrant colour and traditional costumes in a striking recreation of Fiesta de las Cruces in Alvarado. This presentation will highlight choreographic scenes featuring trovadores and a lively jarocha celebration.
