Olivia Gorra, la Banda Sinfónica del Gobierno del Estado de Veracruz, Ensamble de Cámara de la Orquesta de Xalapa y Mariachi Los Hernández

Alma de Veracruz

* Programme subject to change

Banda Sinfónica del Gobierno del Estado de Veracruz, under the direction of Maestro Cristian Texon, joins soprano Olivia Gorra in a performance that pays tribute to Mexican popular music as part of Festival Internacional Cervantino 2025. This programme celebrates the work of two great icons of the national song: María Grever and José Alfredo Jiménez, whose compositions have left a profound mark on bolero and ranchera music.

This proposal aims to build a bridge between the traditional repertoire and contemporary symphonic language, highlighting the melodic and lyrical richness of these songs through new orchestral arrangements by Adalberto Tovar. Iconic works such as La Llorona, Si nos dejan, Camino de Guanajuato, and Júrame acquire renewed sonic depth without losing the emotive and popular force that characterises them.

Meanwhile, the participation of Olivia Gorra —recognised for her outstanding operatic career— adds a unique interpretative nuance. Her voice, accompanied by the strength of the symphonic band, creates a sound experience that connects popular emotion with concert expression, resulting in a repertoire that transcends genres and formats.
