Dumbworld & Irish National Opera

The Scorched Earth Trilogy

* Programme subject to change

What if opera took to the streets to shout at a world on fire? This is how The Scorched Earth Trilogy bursts onto the scene, an immersive experience that challenges everything we think we know about opera.

Coming from the world of Dumbworld, composer Brian Irvine, writer and director John McIlduff, digital artist Conan McIvor, and director Fergus Sheil of the Irish National Opera, join forces to create three satirical “urban art” operas: Won’t Bring Back the Snow, Trickle Down Economics, and Revival. These are projected in large format onto walls and experienced through headphones.

The pieces address our broken relationship with the Earth: the environment, climate change, pollution, consumerism, politics, but also care, hope, and unity.

This team, nominated for the Ivor Novello and awarded a British Composer Award, will take us through visceral, tender, and moving moments. What you’ll experience is opera… but not as you know it. Besides making you think, it will let you feel and see the world through different eyes by challenging your perception of street art, orchestral music, and singing.
