Arturo Chacón Cruz y el Mariachi Gama 1000

100 años de José Alfredo

Sonora - Mexico  City

They say kings only exist in fairy tales, but Mexico has one who rules through emotion. This year, Mexico celebrates the centennial of the birth of José Alfredo Jiménez, the man who took it upon himself to write the biography, the wounds, and the heartbreaks of all of Mexico, through his unique alchemy: transforming pain into the gold of popular lyrics.

No one like tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz to give voice to the soul of Dolores Hidalgo. Accompanied by the virtuosity of Mariachi Gama 1000, Chacón embarks on a journey through the songbook that defines our identity, a journey that moves from the gallantry of El Rey to the devotion of that anthem called Camino de Guanajuato.

Celebrating the centennial of José Alfredo Jiménez is to recognize that every night of stars, and every promise of a Si nos dejan are fragments of pieces with which an entire country learned to weep with pride. Thus, his centennial will become the longest serenade in the history of all of Guanajuato.

‘... That’s how sadly the most joyful gala of the year began at Bellas Artes, a palace that felt too small for Chacón Cruz.’
