Alejandra Robles

Singer  |  México

She was born in Puerto Escondido, in the Costa Chica region of the state of Oaxaca. From a young age she showed interest in music and dance, especially in the sounds and chilenas from Guerrero and Oaxaca. She was encouraged by her father who accompanied her on the guitar, but her inspiration came from her maternal grandfather from San Marcos, Guerrero, a traditional Afro-descendant musician, pioneer of the trios in Oaxaca, who began singing in the restaurant where the trailers were parked. Robles moved to the city of Oaxaca at the age of fifteen and began studying singing and contemporary dance at the School of Fine Arts in Oaxaca. At the age of twenty she entered the Classical Singing major at the Universidad Veracruzana. She has sung in the most important festivals in Mexico; she recently inaugurated the Fort of San Diego in the port of Veracruz, where she performed before President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. She sang in the project Tengo un Sueño, at the National Auditorium, accompanied by the Sonora Santanera and the Orquesta Comunitaria. She also sang at the Mexico City Theater accompanied by the Banda Mujeres del Viento Florido.

She performed at the Zócalo in Mexico City on September 15th, sharing the stage with Arturo Márquez, Regina Orozco and Horacio Franco. She had a sold out performance at the Festival Internacional Cervantino 2023 and more recently, at the Oaxaca City Center with the show Catrina, by Noel Suástegui.

She has toured and performed in Denmark, Spain, Colombia, Holland, France and Canada, and has performed duets and recordings with singers such as Armando Manzanero, Eugenia León, Susana Zabaleta, Regina Orozco, La Sonora Santanera, Alex Lora and Tania Libertad.

She was the image and voice of the AfroCenso 2020, a project of great importance that counts, for the first time, the number of Afro-descendant people in the country. Since 2021 she has her own television series called Las joyas de Oaxaca, which is broadcast on public television on Canal Once and Canal 22, in this series we see Alejandra travel to the communities where she interviews personalities that honor the state where they are from.
