This theater, which was once considered as one of the best in the country, is chosen by the Cervantino to be the stage for many interesting national and international theater and dance performances.
It is Neoclassical in style and it was the first theater in Guanajuato to open its doors to the performing arts in the 18th century, back when it was known as Corral de Comedias. Those were times of prosperity, since the city was an important mining center and people of all social classes came to this stage for entertainment after a hard day's work.
After the Independence, the theater became a cinema that was unfortunately destroyed by a fire in 1921. The structure that we currently know is the result of its rebuilding and reopening in 1955. Under the administration of the University of Guanajuato it is used for cultural activities of all kinds.
