This community music education programme by Secretaría de Cultura de Guanajuato stems from research begun in 2021 into our Guanajuatan sound heritage, through the study of traditions, rituals, and composers who have had a significant presence in the collective imagination: José Alfredo Jiménez, María Grever, and Juventino Rosas. These artists inspired the series of lectures “Guanajuato en retrospectiva; Polkas, Vinuetes y Son Arribeño”, the “Ensayo Sonoro sobre Guanajuato” programme; as well as the “Sonidos de Ritualidades de Guanajuato project” with Tunditos, Danzantes Éza’r, and Alabanceros.
From this identity journey emerges Guanajuato, yo canto para ti, a concert that brings together these explorations in a tribute to Guanajuatan music, celebrating its diversity and evolution with arrangements and compositions by Maestro Carlos Cruz Núñez. The sound journey is accompanied by the voice of Guanajuatan singer Sindy Gutiérrez, “La Alondra de México,” recognised for her talent and career in Mexican music.
