Within the walls and gardens of this venue, you will be able to enjoy the great diversity of traditional music from around the world that the Cervantino brings to you

Haciendas were founded during the Colony and used for the exploitation of mineral resources that were exported to Spain. In Guanajuato, mining was the main activity. On the banks of the river that used to run through what is now the center of the city, there were dozens of haciendas; one of them, San Gabriel de Barrera, was dedicated to silver mining. For almost a century, there was a time of prosperity that led to the founding of the picturesque city of Guanajuato, but as soon as resources started running out and the fight for Independence rose up, haciendas were abandoned, some were demolished and the few that remained are now the only witnesses of that time.

The Ex Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera, built in the seventeenth century, invites you to go way back in history: within its ancient walls, old-fashioned rooms and 17 gardens, you will be able to picture the time when landowners lived like kings and day laborers worked hard extracting and grinding silver. Do not forget to visit the chapel with its fascinating altarpiece made with gold leaf.
