Inaugurated in 2002, the Guanajuato Arts Center, which is situated in the Main Cloister of the former Augustinian convent Fray Juan de Sahagún in Salamanca, was the first of a network of seven artistic training spaces promoted by the Federal Government, through the National Council of Culture and the Arts, in coordination with state and local governments. It was conceived as a space for training-experimentation-production, aimed at improving the professional profiles of artistic creators and art instructors in the Central-Western region and its operation has fully responded to that conception.
