Two of the most celebrated names of Brazil's new generation of musicians, João Camarero and Xeina Barros, will present a repertoire based on traditional music from a contemporary perspective. The complexity of the guitar meets powerful percussion to provide a wide mosaic of Brazilian rhythms and genres, interpreting compositions by masters such as Tom Jobim, Baden Powell, Pixinguinha among others. They are critically acclaimed as great players of their instruments: Camarero on seven-string guitar and Barros on percussion and vocals. Their virtuosity has impressed great artists such as Maria Bethânia, Caetano Veloso, Dori Caymmi, and many other important names.
PRESS QUOTES
“On João Camarero's new album, Gentil Assombro, the virtuosity without excesses of the young and praised 32-year-old Brazilian guitarist, who plays with Maria Bethania, is evident. The talent is used to the advantage of the songs that include two unreleased choruses by Paulinho da Viola.”
Laura Calvi Anic. Gama
“The studio album (Gentil Assombro) includes ten tracks, including two new songs by Paulinho da Viola, performed by the São Paulo artist. The work explores the guitarist's technical virtuosity and highlights the artistic maturity of a melody worker.”
Gabriel von Borell. TMDQA
“Like guitarist Rahael Rabello, Joao Camarero composed with great names of Brazilian Popular Music, MPB, such as Paulo César Pinheiro and Cristováo Bastos, besides performing in several concert halls around the world.”
