Fado Camões
Portugal
A guitar, a piano and percussion set the scene, against which LINA_’s voice takes the verses of Luís Vaz de Camões, the 16th-century Portuguese poet, and brings them to life, making them feel intimate and timeless. With Fado Camões, the Portuguese singer combines her characteristic elegance with new sonic horizons that lead the audience through swing and subtle African nuances.
Accompanied by the British producer and musician Justin Adams, LINA_ presents a more personal album: a letter dedicated to her childhood, love and heartbreak, as well as to her unique way of feeling and reinventing fado, Portugal’s soul musica, which UNESCO has classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
With this production, the singer achieves the miracle that the Portuguese poet Nuno Júdice describes as “a perfect poem sung by a perfect voice. What we now see reborn, with the unblemished purity of a performance in which Portuguese and Galician come together in total harmony.”
Artists
‘I became curious; I wanted to know more, beyond Las Lusíadas or the sonnets, and I discovered that Camões’ themes—change, childhood, love, falling out of love or the description of nature—could be adapted to fado and its metrics.’
LINA_
‘The singer possesses a voice of fiercely intimate power and texture.’
Pitchfork
‘A great fado record, to say the least.’
