La ópera de los monstruos
Stage of the Arts México & Compañía Flotante
Mexico - Argentina - Peru
Watch out! Your imagination has come to life. What begins as a sleepover among friends spirals into a surreal universe inhabited by giant puppets, eyes that blink in the shadows, and underwater molecules.
In La ópera de los monstruos, Manu guides us through a world where fear is not an enemy to be defeated, but a score to be performed. There we discover that opera singing can become the ultimate superpower for dispelling any fear.
Produced in Mexico, Argentina, and Peru, this piece is a festive introduction to opera. It reminds us that failures can be fun, that the disgusting is another form of beauty, and that snot and drool are part of an unpredictable and vital game.
By the end of the play, the audience leaves with the certainty that their own inner monsters now have colors, extraordinary voices, and, above all, that they no longer bite. It is an ode to the courage it takes to walk through the darkness while singing, convinced that, together with friends, there is no shadow that cannot be illuminated by laughter.
A musical adventure to discover the beauty of difference. During a sleepover, Manu and his friends are immersed in a universe where fear, laughter, disgust, and beauty take the form of fascinating monsters. On his journey, Manu will search for his lost friends, and upon discovering that singing is a superpower, he’ll manage to transform his most feared monsters into beautiful beings with whom he can live in harmony.
La ópera de los monstruos is an introduction to opera for the whole family. It combines puppetry, dance, visual installations, and an original score performed on stage by opera singers and musicians. It is an international project conceived and produced by Compañía Flotante (Peru–Argentina) and Stage of the Arts México.Against the rhythmic foundation laid by Rocío Chávez and Rodo Ibarra, and the textures created by Alex Lara, Jung Sing’s voice emerges: a thread of mellifluous melancholy that evokes a reincarnated Nick Cave in the Baja California desert.
