Cuarteto Arod

Cuarteto Arod presents its interpretation of Joseph Haydn’s Op. 76, offering unique perspectives that broaden and enrich the scope of the work. Each member values and embraces the genius of the Austrian composer, fully exploring the freshness and timeless melodic quality that characterize the “Father of the Quartet.”

In approaching this classical repertoire, the musicians of Cuarteto Arod strive to remain faithful both to the spirit and the letter of the works. Rather than offering a purely academic reading, they infuse the music with a contemporary vitality that highlights the contrasts and sophistication of the master composer. A key factor in achieving this balance is their technical approach: the recording is not entirely “historically informed,” as the quartet performs on modern violins while using bows inspired by those of the 18th century.

This project is particularly significant because Op. 76 represents the pinnacle of Haydn’s artistic maturity. It is a landmark work in the evolution of the string quartet as a genre. Haydn’s influence is the foundation upon which European chamber music was built, extending directly to Beethoven and Mozart, whom he mentored and whose artistic presence can be felt in some of his works.

Profiles

“The members of Arod match Haydn in their originality, their fondness for song and dance, and their ability to accompany us along the same path or transport us to a special place.”

— Recording Reviews

“Cuarteto Arod uses modern violins but bows inspired by those from Haydn's time. The result is a supple and flexible sound… I prefer their approach to any other I have heard in a long time.”
