Mohamed El Khatib
La vida secreta de los viejos
Does the end of life mean the end of love? This play debunks the belief that older people lack a sex drive. After working on a project that introduced various forms of artistic experimentation into care homes for the elderly, Mohamed El Khatib realised how these spaces could shed light on a hidden aspect of the lives of older generations. This play sets out to explore this further and revisit stories of love.
Deeply moved by the personal stories they shared with him, he invited women and men aged between 75 and 102 to take part in this play and recount their experiences. Ageing involves facing society’s critical gaze, the physical decline of the body and the gradual loss of independence; yet love prevails, as does desire, when sexuality finds new forms and rhythms, with its own timeline and a subtle, profound intimacy.
