Orquesta Típica Yukalpetén

Gala Yucateca

Yucatán

Yucatecan trova finds its home with the Orquesta Típica Yukalpetén. What began in 1942 as a project to foster regional identity has become a pillar of the state’s vernacular music. Awarded the Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes, this institution has brought trova and regional rhythms to venues such as Palacio de Bellas Artes and Auditorio Nacional. Under the direction of maestro Pedro Carlos Herrera López, the orchestra continues its legacy of academic excellence and cultural preservation.

In this Gala Yucateca, the ensemble offers a journey through the most beautiful pages of the peninsula’s songbook. The program begins with trova classics such as Peregrina and Caminante, followed by the mastery of its soloists and troubadours in pieces like El pájaro azul and Semejanzas.

The evening ranges from the playful charm of La cochinita pibil and the heartfelt medley of classics by ‘Coqui’ Navarro and Juan Acereto to the contemporary elegance of Armando Manzanero. The concert culminates with the exuberance of the jarana and vibrant folklore in El torito and Los Aires del Mayab, a complete celebration of Yucatecan identity.
