Sofía Rei
Antónima
Argentina
Argentine artist Sofía Rei arrives in Mexico to present her seventh album: Antónima. This musical project represents the culmination of a deeply intimate creative process in which the singer’s identity intertwines with her Latin American roots.
The work looks toward the future through a unique fusion of genres, allowing the warmth of folk to converse organically with the avant-garde of electronic music.
Antónima comes to life through the voices and talent of women who are pillars of contemporary Latin music, such as Guatemalan Gaby Moreno, Cuban Daymé Arocena, and the founder of Flor de Toloache, Mireya Ramos. These collaborations bring great richness to the performance.
The album presents itself as a constant duality. The tracks strike a balance between acoustic instrumentation and modern sound design, shaping a work where folk tradition meets digital futurism.

‘… A masterclass in how to combine folkloric tradition with digital futurism […] Umbral has an enchanting authenticity derived from Rei allowing her unique personality to be revealed in music. […] A raw expression of curious creativity and brave experimentation. Sublime.’
Dan Hobson, Songlines Magazine (UK)
‘Flutes flutter over ricocheting synth bass, a stop-and-start beat and strummed charango, as Rei’s overdubbed voice harmonizes with itself in fierce exclamations, lapping at the sky like a flame.’
Giovanni Russonello, The New York Times
