Ensamble Tierra Mestiza
Group | México
Tierra Mestiza is the title of the piece composed by Gerardo Tamez in 1976, when he was part of the group Los Folkloristas. It alludes to a mestizo cultural identity (indigenous, black and Spanish). Since the foundation of the group in 2005, they have been promoting Mexican and Latin American concert music nurtured in the roots of folklore and popular music. Its repertoire ranges from Mexican baroque pieces to contemporary works, with arrangements by composers such as Astor Piazzola, Heitor Villalobos, Arturo Márquez and Tamez himself. Its repertoire ranges go from the colonial son to the present day and its fusion with genres such as the fandango, the danzón and the son.
