
Ximena Escalante
With several national and international playwriting awards, her plays have been translated into more than 8 languages and presented in different parts of the world, in the framework of festivals, fairs or artistic residencies. Her work’s focus is based on mythology and the deconstruction of literary tradition, and as an exception, Frida Kahlo. Her work as a television screenwriter is inspired by social issues, women's issues and documentaries. She has worked with the company Nouveau Théâtre du 8-Lyon presenting Polyptyque Escalante where her texts of Phaedra, Andrómaca, Salomé and Electra had a season of residencies and toured France for 6 years. Her works have been published in Mexico, Spain, Germany, France, Rumania, Canada, Scotland, Greece. Her most distinguished play Fedra y otras griegas, has been presented in Canada, New York, France, Italy, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Germany, Greece, and Taiwan. She is currently head of a drama school, and is preparing the "Extasis" season, a trilogy on Medea, Clytemnestra and Helen.
