Banda de Música del Estado de Guanajuato
It is one of the oldest musical groups in the country and in Latin America. It has its roots in the first military groups that were formed in the city of Guanajuato, due to the expulsion of the Jesuits in June and July of 1767. Sixteen drums hired for the infantry and nine trumpets for the cavalry represent the origin of the Banda de Música. It was not until November 22, 1855 that the Band of the First Light Battalion of Guanajuato was created and from then on it became part of the traditions and festivities of the state. In the nineties, the Band became part of the State Institute of Culture and has been directed by musicians Pedro Jiménez Rosas, David Flores, Ignacio Alcocer Pulido, Pedro Tudón, Vicente Barrientos Yépez, Manuel Arpero, Hugo Maldonado Gudiño and José Manuel Sandoval. It is currently under the direction of master Adalberto Tovar.
