The Alhóndiga de Granaditas Guanajuato Regional Museum is located in a historical monument that was built between 1797 and 1809. It is a majestic work of neoclassical architecture with a simple design, but an impeccable technique. Its monumentality reflects the prosperity of Guanajuato at the end of the 18th century.

The Alhóndiga de Granaditas is a symbol of the Independence of Mexico due to the battle that was fought there on September 28, 1810, and it embodies, with the figure of Hidalgo and other heroes, the sovereignty and freedom of the Mexican nation.

This historical significance was reflected in the murals that José Chávez Morado painted in 1955 and 1966, in which the artist from Guanajuato described the viceregal process until its end, thus accentuating the civic character and cultural value of the building.

Due its historical worth, it became a museum in June, 1958.
