Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM

Mexico - Lithuania

The Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM (OFUNAM), conducted by Sylvain Gasançon, performs at the 54th Festival Internacional Cervantino with a program that bridges traditional symphonic repertoire with contemporary Mexican composition. The program includes Breves sombras by Ana Lara, a work commissioned by OFUNAM to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, whose Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58, completed in 1806, will also be performed. On this occasion, it will be performed by Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniušas. The program concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88, composed in 1889 and dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, in gratitude for his election as a member of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Arts.

‘Its existence is also a historic and fortuitous event, almost miraculous, as it emerged as a university ensemble and evolved into one of Mexico’s finest orchestras, without severing ties to its roots or its service to UNAM.’

Gaceta UNAM

‘Geniušas’s performance combines a very high level of technical skill with an apparently effortless execution.’
