
Layale Chaker
A French-Lebanese musician, she trained in an environment marked by a wide variety of musical influences. Her sound universe has been described by NPR as “beguiling” with “bright and beautiful strands… gorgeous, wine-dark swirls”. Her work lies at the intersection of contemporary classical music, jazz, Arabic music, and improvisation. She was a 2020-2022 Jerome Hill Fellow and received the Opera America Discovery Award in 2022, in addition to numerous commendations. Her 2023-2024 programme includes premieres with the New York Philharmonic and her opera debut at the 2024 Spoleto Festival.
