Born in Latvia, he is the principal conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir, with which he has collaborated for over thirty years. Since 2020, he has also led the Swedish Radio Choir, and previously directed the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Renowned for his interpretation of repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary works, he is particularly noted for his commitment to modern choral music. Among his honours are the Latvian Grand Music Award and the Cabinet of Ministers Award for his contributions to culture and science.
