Roberto Avendaño graduated with honours in Dramatic Literature and Theatre from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He further honed his skills in stage direction at the Zagreb Youth Theatre in Croatia.

With the theatre group Cornisa 20, he has created and directed over fifty productions, which have been presented at fairs and festivals throughout Mexico as well as on international stages. He is currently the director of TEATRAL, Festival Internacional de Teatro de San Miguel de Allende, and a member of Sistema Nacional de Creadores (SNCA).
