José Antonio Alvear

Mexican director, actor, playwright, and theatre educator. He has dedicated much of his career to teaching, particularly within the university setting. He led the Theatre Group at Universidad Iberoamericana León for five years and taught training workshops for all ages. He was also a professor at Facultad de Artes Escénicas y Producción de Espectáculos at UDL for four years. In 1995, he founded the company San Banquito Teatro, taking part in showcases and festivals with original works such as León Campión, Lo de menos es la lengua, and La Salvaje.

Community theatre has played a central role in his path, beginning in Mexico City with youth from Cerro del Ajusco, later directing at the Juvenile Detention Centre in Guanajuato, and currently working with Grupo de Teatro Comunitario de Nuevo Valle de Moreno since 2023. Additionally, as a psychologist, he applies performing arts techniques in therapeutic group settings.
