Dumbworld & Irish National Opera

This is one of the most creative and versatile artistic organisations in Northern Ireland, with a national and international reputation for the quality, scope, inclusivity, and impact of its artistic work.

Founded in 2009 by composer Brian Irvine and writer-director John McIlduff, Dumbworld is a multidisciplinary production company led by artists that uses opera, animation, orchestral oratorio, art installations, and virtual reality to create contemporary, participatory, exciting, innovative, relevant, and inspiring performing arts.

It was created with the specific goal of producing bold, visceral, and radical multimedia works that connect with people and address contemporary and relevant social, political, and human concerns. Additionally, it has won and been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the British Composers Award, the Irish Times Theatre Award, the Irish Allianz Arts Award, the Ellen Stewart International Arts Award, the Total Theatre Award for Innovation, and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composers Award.
