He was a prominent playwright and storyteller from Veracruz, born in 1925 and died in 2008. He studied philosophy and literature at UNAM, specializing in english literature and dramatic arts. Throughout his career, he worked as a literary supervisor for Ballet Nacional de Mexico and taught at various universities in the United States.

He began his literary career in 1946 with his first novel, Los mundos de Alberto, followed by two more in 1948. He also ventured into cinema, contributing to screenplays —his most notable being Macario, which was nominated for an Academy Award. He made his theatrical debut in 1950 with Rosalba y los llaveros. Carballido went on to write around 150 works, including ballet, opera, and film pieces. Among his most well-known plays are Felicidad, Te juro Juana que tengo ganas, and Rosa de dos aromas, his most successful comedy. In 1962, he received the Casa de las Américas Theater Prize, solidifying his place as one of the key figures in contemporary Mexican theater.
