He is an actor and theatre and opera director, a graduate of the Centro Universitario de Teatro at UNAM. He has directed over fifty productions in theatres such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City; the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui in Montréal; De Doelen in Rotterdam; Queen Elizabeth Hall in London; La Cité de la Musique in Paris; and the Palau de la Música, among others.

He has directed for the Compañía Nacional de Teatro, the Compañía Nacional de Ópera, and the New London Consort, among many other prominent ensembles. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the theatre company Teatro del Farfullero, with which he has created fourteen productions. His most significant works include Las tremendas aventuras de la capitana Gazpacho by Gerardo Mancebo del Castillo; Noche árabe by Roland Schimmelpfennig; Unos cuantos piquetitos by Ximena Escalante; Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart; Fidelio by L. van Beethoven; The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell; Salomé by Oscar Wilde; and Richard III by Shakespeare, among others. Since 1997 he has taught acting at CUT, CasAzul, and ENAT. He is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores.
