
Jorge Ballina
He has designed more than one hundred and twenty sets for Mexican and international productions of opera, theatre, and dance. He has won three international awards at the Prague Quadrennial in 2003 and at World Stage Design in 2005 and 2022. For the Ópera de Bellas Artes, he directed the staging of Death in Venice and designed the sets for Die Zauberflöte, Macbeth, L’italiana in Algeri, Don Giovanni, Fidelio, Rusalka, Death in Venice, Così fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro, L’amour de loin, Les contes d’Hoffmann, The Rake’s Progress, and the complete cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen.
He also designed Le nozze di Figaro (Zagreb, Croatia), Rusalka (Teatro Colón), Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci and Carmen (León), as well as El último sueño de Frida y Diego (San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles).
