Miguel Balfre Nieto Applebaun

General manager of the Salón Los Ángeles

Born in Mexico City on January 4th, 1950, he is the general manager of Salón Los Ángeles. When he was 22 years old, after his grandfather died in 1972, Mr. Miguel Balfre Nieto Alcántara took over the management of Salón Los Ángeles. He has carried the position with special affection, skill, and ability for over four decades. Miguel Nieto Applebaum's predilection for dancing and music has been evident in various stages of his life. In 1976, he started the movement "La Rumba es Cultura" which extended to other countries, achieving the declaration of rumba as UNESCO Humanity’s Cultural Heritage. He participated in several editions of the Festival Internacional de Cultura del Caribe (International Festival of Caribbean Culture) in the State of Quintana Roo as curator of Afro-Antillean music and coordinator of various groups, accomplishing the incorporation of a new concept of festival with highly acclaimed groups in our country, such as: Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, Willie Colón, Johnny Ventura, Chico O´Farrill, La Sonora Santanera, etc.
