Juan Felipe Waller

Juan Felipe Waller

He studied composition at the CIEM in Mexico City, the Conservatory of Rotterdam, and IRCAM in Paris. The instrumentation of his works varies between symphony orchestra, chamber music with electronics, and often includes multimedia. His work explores unconventional materials while delving into microtonal territories and experimenting with unusual timbral combinations. Waller has developed and built his own instruments designed for live performance by musicians. He has received several awards and grants, including the NOG Prize for orchestra (1999), Fundación Camargo (2006), and Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (2008, 2011, 2016). His works include Teguala, a percussion quartet for 120 tiles and electronics; Calumnia for large orchestra; and Eye Masking for soprano and ensemble.
