She was born in Figueres, Girona. In 1993, she founded the company Atra Bilis Teatro. Her plays, translated into several languages, have been performed on major international stages such as the Festival d'Avignon, the Vienna Festival, the Schaubühne in Berlin and the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris. She has received major distinctions, including the Premio Nacional de Literatura in 2012, the Silver Lion of the Venice Biennale in 2013, the Leteo Prize in 2016, and in 2017 she was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. In 2023, she was awarded the UBU Prize in Italy and, in 2024, the Premio de la Crítica in Catalonia. That same year, she opened the Festival d'Avignon with Dämon.
