Gabriela Muñoz

Known as Chula The Clown, she is a multidisciplinary Mexican artist. She completed her studies in physical theatre in London (LISPA) and at the School of Physical Theatre. She has experience in theatre, circus and opera both in Mexico and abroad, and inspired by these three languages, she has created a universe of her own.

In 2010 she created the clown show Perhaps, Perhaps… Quizás, presented in more than twenty countries and awarded at the New Zealand Fringe (2016) and the Mostra Internacional de Cangas (MIC), Galicia (2024).

In 2015 she premiered Limbo with the support of EFI Teatro, alongside Ernesto García and Marian Ruzzi, with the special participation of Natalia Lafourcade at Teatro de la Ciudad.

She collaborated on the documentary Witkin on Witkin (2016), and in 2019 premiered Dirt at Foro Lucerna, with support from EFI ARTES; the play was nominated for the Premio de la Ciudad Theatre Award for Best Production. In 2020, she was awarded the Medal for International Merit in Cultural Promotion by Congreso de la CDMX and launched her first publishing project, Chula The Clown, recognised by the national graphic arts guild.

She is currently working with Alondra de la Parra on The Silence of Sound, a symphonic show combining clown and orchestra, premiered at Festival Paax GNP (2022). That same year she presented Julieta, with support from FONCA, MICC (Mercado Internacional de Circo Contemporáneo), and in co-production with Chamäleon Theater Berlin, TOHU and Ruhrfestpiele, Recklinghausen.
