London Sinfonietta

The London Sinfonietta is one of the world’s leading contemporary music ensembles. Founded in 1968, their commitment to new music has led them to perform over 470 works and premiere hundreds more. Based at the Southbank Centre and Artistic Associates of Kings Place, and with an intense touring schedule across the UK and abroad, the London Sinfonietta’s principal musicians are counted among the finest in the world.

Their philosophy is guided by constant experimentation with musical art, working with some of the best composers, performers, and artists worldwide to create musical projects that often include film, theatre, dance, and visual art. They also incorporate works that address current issues such as climate change, violence against women, and racial inequality.

The London Sinfonietta has also broken new ground by launching its own digital channel, featuring video programs and podcasts about new music. They created Steve Reich’s Clapping Music app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, an interactive rhythm game that has been downloaded over 600,000 times worldwide. The ensemble’s recording catalog over 50 years has solidified their global reputation. Recent recordings include Geyser by Marius Neset (NMC), In The Voices Of The Living by Luke Bedford (NMC), Antiarkie by Ryan Latimer (NMC), and Images of Broken Light by Josep Maria Guix (Neu).
