Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes
With more than sixty years of history, Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes (OCBA) is one of the most prominent ensembles in the performance and promotion of chamber music in Mexico. It originated at Conservatorio Nacional de Música under the name “Yolopatli” —a Nahuatl term meaning “cure for the heart”— and was formed by talented students of Maestros Imre Hartmann and Joseph Smilovitz.
Since then, it has been conducted by figures of great importance such as Hermilo Novelo, José Guadalupe Flores, Francisco Savín, Luis Samuel Saloma, and currently, Luis Manuel Sánchez Rivas. Each has contributed to consolidating its artistic excellence and its fundamental role in the country’s cultural life.
In recent years, the orchestra has expanded its repertoire with chamber opera productions, including works by Joseph Haydn, Manuel Penella Moreno, and Mozart. It has also recorded Tres estrenos mundiales de obras para arpa, with harpist Baltazar Juárez, and Verso. Música mexicana para cuerdas, featuring works inspired by poetry.
