Martin Lebel

He is considered one of the best active conductors in Mexico. Since 2020, he has served as Music Director of Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa (OSX). Previously, he was Music Director of Orquesta Filarmonica de Montevideo (2013–2015). In 2009, he was appointed conductor of the Karlovy Vary Orchestra in the Czech Republic; later, in 2014, he was honored as an Honorary Citizen of the city and is currently the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor, leading several concerts each year.

He began his career as a pianist and cellist, graduating with four honors from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris: in fugue, counterpoint, orchestration, and conducting. He was awarded at the Dimitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens in 1998, and in 2003 he won the First Grand Prize in Conducting at the Prokofiev International Music Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.
