Caña Dulce Caña Brava
Tipo de artista: Group
Founded in mid-2007 by Adriana Cao Romero and Raquel Palacios Vega, Caña Dulce y Caña Brava was born from the desire to create a son jarocho group with a feminine perspective, rooted in friendship, tradition, and a love of music. Their name, inspired by the song La caña by Patricio Hidalgo, symbolises the duality of sugarcane: sweetness and toughness, beauty and strength.
Primarily composed of women, the group combines zapateado, the quijada de burro, harp and jaranas with poetic vocals and vibrant costumes. They have represented Mexico in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, collaborating with artists of the calibre of Lila Downs and Jorge Drexler. Heirs to the legacy of son jarocho, born from the mestizaje of the port of Veracruz, the “Dulces y Bravas” today amplify this tradition with a contemporary and feminine perspective.
Currently, the group is working on the production of their third album and continues to study and share their knowledge of son jarocho through workshops and seminars.
