A multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, he was born in Mexico City into a family of traditional musicians from the community of Charapan, Michoacán. At the age of nine, he joined his family’s traditional music group, Los Purépechas de Charapan. In 1994, he began formal violin studies at Conservatorio Nacional de Música under maestro Enrique Espín Yépez. Three years later, he continued his training with maestro Boris Klepov, where he remained until 2004.
