Vientos Musicales
This social music education programme is aimed at girls, boys, and youth in the state of Guanajuato. It began in 2007 as a social strengthening strategy through the creation of traditional bands. It is currently active in twenty-six of the state’s forty-six municipalities through a model of culture of peace and community action.
In 2015, symphony orchestra training was added under the Latin American model of social fabric reconstruction through music, which included a six-month teacher training process. In 2017, choral ensembles were incorporated, and from 2021 the programme was consolidated through the creation of a unique methodology —the only one of its kind in the country— adapted to Guanajuato’s specific context.
Today, the programme includes twenty-seven groups comprising orchestras, bands, choral ensembles, and chamber groups. Its operation is supported by a methodology involving fourteen specialised teachers.
They have developed collaborations with national and international artists, among them: Patricio Hidalgo Belli from Veracruz, Vincent Velázquez from Guanajuato, the women’s band Mujeres de Viento Florido from Oaxaca, Huntertones and Gangstagrass from the United States, Mc Millaray from Chile, Daniel Tatita Márquez from Uruguay, and the Wedding and Funerals Band from Serbia and Croatia, among others.
