He was the last drummer for the legendary Cuban singer Celia Cruz. Later, he joined the band Zoé in the late 1990s. His recorded work has been recognised by the Latin Grammys, alongside artists such as Niña Pastori from Spain and Soledad Pastorutti from Argentina, among many others. Luis Huerta has collaborated for over a decade with singers including Lila Downs, Sin Bandera, Iván Barrera, and Carlos Rivera.
