Since its founding in 1973, Tlen Huicani —“The Singers” in Náhuatl— has promoted the musical heritage of Veracruz at an international level. Its members, from different regions of the state, have learned and cultivated the various musical expressions of Veracruz in their most authentic form. They have also researched both traditional expressions that had fallen into oblivion and new forms of musical creation.

The group has focused primarily on the study and performance of the harp, an emblematic instrument of the state of Veracruz and one widely present in several Latin American countries. Tlen Huicani has provided live music for the performances of Ballet Folklórico de a Universidad Veracruzana, with whom they have toured countries in Central and South America, as well as Cuba, the Bahamas, the United States, Spain, Italy, Germany, China, and Japan.
