Coro Acardenchado

Coro Acardenchado

It is a project whose purpose is to revive and disseminate through community singing the Cardenche Song: A Mexican popular music genre that is sung a cappella and takes its name from the thistle’s thorn. Founded in 2016 by their conductor Juan Pablo Villa, this ensemble proposes a set of contemporary arrangements to the traditional song using different techniques such as free improvisation, body percussion and the use of voices with influences from other singings like the biophonic singing. The ensemble has performed concerts in some of the most important stages of the Mexican Republic. With a five-year trajectory, it already has a record production, Aquellos otros, recorded independently in the Sala Julián Carillo (Julian Carillo Hall) of Radio UNAM, in 2017. During 2020 they performed a video concert commissioned by the Celebrate Mexico Now festival based in New York and with Museo Universitario del Chopo’s (Chopo University Museum UNAM) collaboration, recorded in the 12th Seminary.
