The presence of Africa Express at Festival Internacional Cervantino will mark a historic event and the culmination of a collective creative effort led by Damon Albarn, one of the most iconic musical figures in the United Kingdom.
This collective was conceived in the wake of Live 8, a series of concerts launched from the United Kingdom in support of the African continent, aiming to celebrate Britain’s multicultural wealth and its ability to foster cultural ties with countries around the world.
Although its original approach focused on Africa, the collective was born in the UK as a multicultural initiative and, in 2024, it expanded its vision towards Latin America. Among the participants were musicians from the UK, such as Bonobo and Ezra Collective; Africans like Fatoumata Diawara and Pongo; and Mexicans such as Eme Malafe and La Bruja de Texcoco. The result was the creation of a new album, which was released internationally in the summer of 2025.
For this closing event, worthy of Cervantino, Damon Albarn and more than 50 artists from four continents will celebrate, as never before, the diversity of musical genres that flow in an exquisite, free and unique way.
