Africa Express

Closing event

* Programme subject to change

The presence of Africa Express at Festival Internacional Cervantino will mark a historic event and the culmination of a collective creative effort led by Damon Albarn, one of the most iconic musical figures in the United Kingdom.

This collective was conceived in the wake of Live 8, a series of concerts launched from the United Kingdom in support of the African continent, aiming to celebrate Britain’s multicultural wealth and its ability to foster cultural ties with countries around the world.

Although its original approach focused on Africa, the collective was born in the UK as a multicultural initiative and, in 2024, it expanded its vision towards Latin America. Among the participants were musicians from the UK, such as Bonobo and Ezra Collective; Africans like Fatoumata Diawara and Pongo; and Mexicans such as Eme Malafe and La Bruja de Texcoco. The result was the creation of a new album, which was released internationally in the summer of 2025.

For this closing event, worthy of Cervantino, Damon Albarn and more than 50 artists from four continents will celebrate, as never before, the diversity of musical genres that flow in an exquisite, free and unique way.

Press quotes

“It will be my first time in Europe and my first tour, and honestly, I can’t think of a better way to do it than with Africa Express. What a dream, what a privilege. I didn’t even finish high school, but this feels like graduating from university —only better.”

Luisa Almaguer

“I am very proud to have started my career in Europe fifteen years ago with Africa Express, and to continue collaborating in this new experience with Mexican artists. Returning with all these encounters in Europe is wonderful. We keep proving that the cultural diversity of Africa, Europe, and the Americas unites us in a world that is far too divided!”

Jupiter & Okwess

“It always makes me happy to be part of this wonderful and wild circus, this incredible cultural clash of sounds, feelings, and beauty. I’m so happy to be touring this summer.”
