It is one of Mexico’s most emblematic and long-standing companies. Founded in 1970 by the esteemed Gloria Contreras, who directed it until November 2015, this institution has become an undisputed reference in the country’s cultural and artistic landscape. Over its 54 years of existence, it has presented 112 seasons before millions of spectators, offering two performances each week with different programmes during nine months of the year. Additionally, it has carried out numerous exhibitions, concert-lectures, and international tours in countries such as Russia, Costa Rica, and the United States.

With a vast and diverse repertoire of more than 400 works, spanning from the 14th to the 21st century, TCUNAM has consolidated its neoclassical essence and style. Since February 2024, the artistic direction has been under choreographer Irina Marcano.

Within the cultural diversity and inclusion environment promoted by UNAM, TCUNAM has fostered dance within university venues, encouraging the development of a student audience and promoting the appreciation and enjoyment of this art form.
