Lucía Gutiérrez ft. Tonatiuh Vázquez Jazz Orchestra

* Programme subject to change

In this collaboration, the Veracruz-born singer and the jazz orchestra present a programme that blends traditional Mexican music, jazz, and the cultural diversity of the state of Veracruz. The repertoire includes the Popurrí Veracruzano, featuring the following pieces: Veracruz by Agustín Lara, Muchachita by Mario Ruiz Armengol, and Cascabel by Lorenzo Barcelata, alongside original arrangements by Mexican composers such as Ele by Carlos Zambrano and Mezcalero by Paquito Cruz.

They offer new versions of folk pieces like La Bruja, Cucurrucú, and the boleros Cuando Vuelva a Tu Lado and Como Fue. Tonatiuh Vázquez Jazz Orchestra and Lucía Gutiérrez aim to provide an experience where Mexican music and the tradition of jazz meet on the same stage.

This concert highlights the beauty of Veracruz through its music, inviting the audience to explore its rich cultural heritage. Additionally, Tonatiuh Vázquez Jazz Orchestra brings together musicians from various regions of Mexico, including Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, and Veracruz.

Press quotes

"The creative vision of Lucía Gutiérrez Rebolloso, the first Mexican to win the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition —one of the most prestigious awards in the world in this category— is the creation of a new genre that includes son jarocho. Although people know me as a jazz singer, and I myself am more focused on this style, son will be with me for the rest of my life.”
