The Spanish puppet company PerPoc and Banda de Música del Estado de Guanajuato present a stage production that combines live music and puppet theatre. The show captures the spirit of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and transports it to a world inhabited by animated figures, where choreography is reinvented through the movement of the puppets. Inspired by Vaslav Nijinsky’s ballet, this production evokes the artistic atmosphere of the early 20th century.
The story takes place in Saint Petersburg during Maslenitsa, a religious and folk festival celebrated during the last week before Great Lent. A magician arrives with a small theatre and three puppets: the Moor, the Ballerina, and Petrushka. What begins as a performance turns into a living narrative. Petrushka falls in love with the Ballerina, who is in turn attracted to the Moor. The scene becomes a play of human relationships, where jealousy, desire, and tenderness intertwine in this universal tale.
