The program begins with Veracruz by Agustín Lara, arranged by M. Oliva: a tribute to the cultural richness of this Mexican region. From this root unfolds a journey through the European lyric repertoire, performed by the tenor from Veracruz, Javier Camarena, ranging from French opera of the 19th century to Spanish zarzuela. Two French aubades are presented: Ah! Lève-toi, soleil! from Charles Gounod’s opera Roméo et Juliette, and Vainement, ma bien-aimée from Édouard Lalo’s Le roi d’Ys.
For the Italian segment, arias from La favorita and Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti; La Cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini; and excerpts from La forza del destino and I Lombardi alla prima crociata by Giuseppe Verdi are performed.
Finally, the program concludes with zarzuela, a Spanish genre blending theatrical elements with popular and classical music. Pieces such as La boda de Luis Alonso by Gerónimo Giménez, which includes an interlude, will be performed. In the style of a rhapsody —a free union of musical passages— it contains rhythms of fandango and zapateado.
